'Future wars will not be about bots but on the data they consume'
April 24th, 2024
Interview with Tilman Scheel, CEO of reelport
Tilman and his team have trained an advanced librarian bot capable of selecting media that matches your taste.
He is an expert in exploring new technologies and built his career in the new media industry, focusing on streaming when it was hot stuff.
Now that AI is the hot stuff, he's leveraging his skills in digital media to support libraries all around the world.
What's your job and how does it involve AI?
We created a chatbot for public libraries allowing conversational searches and recommendations of library content.
What's the craziest thing about AI you've heard so far?
That AI lacks the warmth and understanding of humans (in education). Of course it does. It's a tool, like the internet is a tool or a hammer.
Which AI tool do you personally use the most?
ChatGPT
How much time do you approximately save daily by using AI tools?
30min
Do you prefer: ChatGPT or Gemini?
ChatGPT as it is the basis for our own product.
What area should AI enthusiasts keep an eye on in the near future?
How to collect and cleanup data. The AI is only as good as the data it is working on. Future wars will not be about the bots but on the data they consume. Or as they say in the film industry: content is king.
The Interview
Any tips, tricks or hacks regarding the use of AI?
Try as much as you can with all the curiosity you can muster. Only when you push AI to its limits you will understand its limits. Me personally I never succeeded in getting anything really crazy or original out of any AI. But I am still curious.
What AI tool should be invented for you?
An AI robot who cleans my appartment without messing up my things.
Love or hate: Technology smarter than humans aka AGI?
What does "smart" mean? I was educated to engage in what they call "emotional intelligence" in relationships, for example. Will an AGI be emotinally smart? Probably not. AI and even AGI will solve a particular set of tasks better than humans (as does a pocket calculator) but it will never equal or surpass a human in all his complexity.
Do you believe AI will bring a bigger technological revolution than the internet?
I don't know. If with a help of AI we can find a cure for cancer and I don't have to drive myself anymore - maybe yes.
Who'll make the race for spearheading AI in 10 years?
The paths of tech are covered with tombstones of tech giants. Napster, AOL, Netscape, Nokia .... nobody knows.
Is AI more of a chance or a challenge for humanity?
A chance. However, the more efficient the tool the bigger the challenge. We are humans. We put our efficiency to good and to bad uses.
Was there a question you didn't find, but have a brilliant answer for?
42. AI will always be as good as the question but we have to figure out the question.
